Tango Mango Review

You walk in to Tango Mango hoping for some good, old-fashioned Mexican food that tingles your taste buds and satisfies your hunger. What you get is somewhat different. Striding up to the counter, you begin to notice the unusual way this food is served: “fast-food Mexican.” The menu is also a little on the short side, consisting of soft tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and nachos. That’s about it: they don’t even have hard tacos. Once you order, you wait beside the counter for about two minutes until your order is ready. Then you go sit down in the other room that looks like another restaurant.

The first thing you notice is the salsa. Or should we say “salsa”. This usually spicy dish is nothing more than chopped tomatoes in a small cup. You and this food are not exactly getting off to a hot start. Starting to eat just makes it worse. The burritos are extremely bland, with the meat barely tasting any different from the rice it is wrapped in. With little to no flavoring, you will soon be wondering if you are actually just eating bread. However, soon your hunger is gone as it is pretty filling.

Their tacos are even worse. Little more than lettuce, beef, and “salsa” tossed onto a small, wet tortilla, they don’t quench your hunger or satisfy your taste buds. The meat is dry and the lettuce is fine, but the “salsa” is just bad. Combined with the wetness of the tortilla, there is little to enjoy about this usually tasty dish.

One bright spot is the nachos. Given, it is hard to mess up nachos, but still, these are pretty darn great. The cheese is not your average American. Instead, it is a perfect mixture of multiple types of cheese. The chips themselves are salty and crunchy, with tons of flavor. Finally, something in this restaurant actually has that.

Tango Mango’s slogan is “A Taqueria like no other”, but this is far from the truth. It is your typical “American Mexican” restaurant, with little understanding of what Mexican food actually tastes like and more of an idea of how lots of people think it should taste like. You would be better off going somewhere else next time.
