If the name of a club isn't a hyperlink, then there was no new about that club this month.
Asian Pacific Islander
by A. G. and E. M.
The Asian-Pacific Islander Cub has had an exciting year. D. F., club advisor, has some favorite events and activities. First was Odaiko New England, or “ONE.” D. F. says, “I was really proud of the participation and research that went into the preparation before ONE’s performance for the Asian New Year.”
Besides H. S. and S. S., who gave a great opening at the beginning of the two performances, the other students enjoyed making a video about Asian music.
One student gave a performance on Erhu, and others performed other Asian instruments. A favorite activity of the club members was making a commercial for W.O.R.D. preceding the Taiko presentation, and, of course, watching the out takes. Some members made tsunami relief commercials. Overall, most kids enjoyed spending time in front of the camera.
Coming up are even more fun activities. First of all, the club will be presenting their tsunami relief project at the Community Service Learning Showcase. They will also be collecting items to send in a “Culture Box” so that they can share it with an Indonesian School.
Now the club has been connected to 2 schools; the Ban Bang Muang School in Khao Lak, Thailand; and the SMA Negeri 8, A middle and senoir high school in Banang, Indonesia.
To finish the year up, the club will visit Boston and eat at Choe’s Cafe. Here club members will be able to sample genuine Korean cuisine. 6th and 7th graders have even more to look forward to.
The club has started a new tradition of going to Chinatown at the beginning of every year for dim sum. They will continue to keep in touch with the South East-Asian schools, but other than that, main focuses for next year will be determined in the fall.
Anyone who wants to join the club next year should see D. F. in Room 313. The club is open to anyone of any background...it’s a great club for anyone who wants to learn more about Asian culture.

Student Council
Day Student Council Student council pushes to finish courtyard
by J. H. and A. T.
The Day Student Council is getting closer to finishing the courtyard clean up. At every meeting members of the council have been planting and spreading dirt. C. J. describe the courtyard to be “... much better then it use to be...”. Many of the students, as well as teachers, are content with the results of the project. Members are hoping to have the clean-up done within the next couple of weeks.
M. H., the advisor of the student council, and the courtyard clean-up, hope to have many flowers and plants around the perimeter of the courtyard.
Members of the council explained how they hope that the courtyard, at the end of the clean-up, no longer looks like a dump, but that it looks like a proper courtyard. The clean-up is planed to continue until the end of the year and will be the last project that the student council completes this year.
