Survivors of the Holocaust

The Holocaust was undoubtedly one of the darkest periods in the history of the world. The holocaust was the systematic murder of over 10 million people, more than half of which were Jews.  German dictator Adolf Hitler was responsible for this act, which is now a bookmark in the history of the human race. To understand the Holocaust, and the stories of its victims, one must first know the details. Adolf Hitler became the chancellor of Germany in January of 1933. Almost immediately he started to dissolve democracy; he replaced the current police forces with those loyal to him, and those officers were ordered to show no mercy to people who were considered hostile to his government. The police were told not to interfere with the secret police and bodyguards, the SS and SA. Possibly the most notorious of Hitler's creations were the concentration camps, prisons where Jews and others that Hitler deemed "sub-human" (including homosexuals and the handicapped) were put to work and/or killed. They were murdered in the gas chambers; human beings were crammed into these rooms and poisoned. Their corpses were piled into mass graves and burned. Young children were generally separated from their parents and slayed soon after arrival, but if they were fit to work, they would. Over one million kids under the age of 16 died in the Holocaust. There are currently very few survivors of the Holocaust. The gruesome period having been in the 1940's, most of them were children when it occurred. This is their story.
