Shoplifting

Shoplifting has been a problem for small stores all over Newton. A CVS store supervisor tells THE DAYTIME that shoplifting has made a huge impact on profits. Formulas and other products for infants are among the most commonly shoplifted items at CVS.

If a customer or group of customers appears suspicious, employees will dicard their uniforms and follow the group around the store. Often, empty packages are found scattered throughout the store and are collected in groups in an attempt to calculate lost profit.  She also states that in one week a whole shopping bag filled with lost merchandise was found.

Morning Silver, a small jewlery store, has been affected too.  The store owner has noticed that rings are most commonly shoplifted at his store. Although he is very trusting and chooses to leave all of his jewlery out of glasses for people to touch, Dungan declares that if the shoplifting problem were to start changing his profit more drastically, he might add cameras.

The store manager of West Newton Liquors, feels the same way. He says that if someone were to shoplift out of need, then there is a chance that an exception would the age of shoplifters vary. However, the majority of shop lifters are young adults. Despite the damage that shoplifting does  be made. Despite the size of these companies, shoplifting fortunately does not decrease profits too outrageously.

The owners and supervisors unanimously agree that normally they are unable to detect when a person is going to shoplift based on their appearance.  One owner states that the gender and afflict on profits, storeowners are not discuraged.Petrillo’s store manager, says ”We normally have very good kids in the store but on occasion I may have to kick shoplifters out of the store.”
