This newspaper received the All-New England Journalism Award from the New England Scholastic Press Association (NESPA) at its 56th annual conference at Boston University on Thursday, April the 29th. In addition, both the paper and W. O. R. D. received “Highest Achievement” awards, plus 14 individual achievement awards.
47 members of the combined DAYTIME/W. O. R. D. staffs, mainly 7th graders and 8th grade editors, attended the event. Staff members attended a total of 3 seminars taught by experts in various fields of journalism.
Staff members assisted the advisors of The Daytime and W.O.R.D. deliver one of the seminars, entitled: “Electronic and print media can co-exist”.
They also heard John Schulz, Dean of B. U.’s College of Communications, deliver the keynote speech, “Journalism today: where we are, where we are headed, and why we need YOU to fix it”.
