Asian Pacific Islander
Asian Pacific Islanders start the year off right!
by A. G. and E. M.
For one year now, soon to be two, Asian Pacific Islander club (APIC) has celebrated the Lunar New Year. The Lunar New year is like the Chinese New Year, but it “encompasses more. ” , says club advisor, D. F.
“The kids wanted to do a theme around music, so [they] taped some students playing instruments. H. S. played and [so did] J. L.” When asked about her favorite part of the club, D. F. said, “...the kids just enjoy being together.”
The presentation for the Lunar New Year was February the 10th. Last month they started the unit by researching Daiko, or Taiko drums. They practiced reading the paragraphs they had written on the subject. and, of course, they saved some time to play ping-pong and ball in the exercise room.
And APIC members are still collecting for tsunami relief. Please use their container in the Library.

by R. G. and M. G.
The Black History Production Club will be performing its play today, Wednesday, February the 16th. They have been rehearsing for the play for many months [look for a review of the production in the March the 16th edition].
B. S. and D. S., the club directors, don’t know when this club was started, but it’s been around for at least six years. The original club director was S. T., who is now at Brandeis.
D. S. joined six years ago. “I think this club was started to give the students of color a voice in the school community,” says D. S.
C. A., a 7th grader on Red Team enjoys this club because, “It’s a chance for us to express what we learn.”
Black History production Club meets every Thursday in Room 211 after school. At this point they are not accepting any more members.
Ski and Snowboard
Ski and Snowboard Club is running as smoothly as the slopes at Nashoba
by J. B. and M. C.
The Ski and Snowboard Club has flowed very well this year: very few problems and students have had a great deal of fun. Some kids are very experienced boarders and skiers, while others have just started to learn, but with little consequences of falls and major wipeouts.
This club started after the December break. Kids ski and snowboard from 3 till about 5:30. The bus leaves Day around 1:55 and departs Nashoba, arriving at Day at 6:45.
Most kids take lessons at 4PM. Depending on their ability, they learn how to, among other things, stop, jump, use poles, parallel ski, do a “pizza” down the hill, and gain confidence in skiing/snowboarding and going up the chair lift.
So far, large numbers of Day students have turned out for the 5 trips to Nashoba Valley.
On the way there and back kids read, do homework, or watch the movie.
There are 2 buses, divided up by grade level. Bus 1 had 6th graders and several 7th graders, while bus 2 has the rest of the 7th graders and all the 8th graders.
After the club members ski they may visit a café that serves hot chocolate, coffee, and fried dough.
