The DAYTIME unveils its website
How to access THE DAYTIME’s website
by S. B.
THE DAYTIME website offers a wide range of opportunities. It provides users with comprehensive links to all sorts of Newton websites and helpful resources. It has all the stories the reader will find in a regular DAYTIME, except the ones that would violate the privacy of the students.
It also has an online submit-a-letter, online advertising, links and much more.
Now for a little history. THE DAYTIME website was first conceptualized in October of 2003 when I, the webmaster, made the connection between HTML (more on HTML later) and THE DAYTIME. The website went through various stages of design for the next 4 months. Adobe GoLive 6 was purchased and the website was finally first published in May of 2004. Publication continued, although software difficulties with Adobe GoLive plagued much of the operation. Finally a software switch was made to Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004. The website was redesigned with new graphics and more color.
THE DAYTIME Website is written in HTML (shorthand for Hyper Text Markup Language). This is the standard coding for websites. It is made up of many different tags. Tags are sets of beginnings and endings for a specific property.
The first and most important tag is the <html> and the </html>, they signify the beginning and end of a HTML document. In HTML beginning tags are just text surrounded by the < symbol and the > symbol. Ending tags are the same thing, but the first < has a / after it. The other important tags are :
*<head> and </head> which denote the head section of a document. It is usually put in to HTML documents, but has no purpose until the user starts dealing with advanced coding.
*<title> and </title> denote the title area, and the user can type in the title of the page. It appears at the top of the page on the title bar.
*<body> and </body> This is where the majority of HTML will go it dictates what will appear on the page itself. To show the HTML of any page use Apple E on Macs and on Windows right click and select “View Source”.

Some areas of the web page are not yet available, as the web site is still under construction. Also some of the features available for a full interactive experience require plug-ins and some things require more advanced browsers.
Nonetheless there are always simple and easy to use features. Also it is important to know that NO compromising information, such as students’ names, will be conveyed in these features (assisting in the preparation of this article was S. B.).
